At Village Pediatric Dentistry, we take your child's health and well-being seriously. We don’t believe in cutting corners or putting them at risk just because something is rare among children. Instead, we maintain a proactive approach, which is why oral cancer screenings in Cumming are part of regular dental checkups. Call us today to schedule your child’s next appointment and let us provide early detection to support long-term overall health.

If you notice any of the following symptoms, do not wait to bring your child in to our office for an oral cancer screening:

During an oral cancer screening, our dentist will closely examine your child's head, neck, throat, and mouth. Your child will remain comfortable throughout the exam.
They will look for anything that appears abnormal, including lumps and bumps, excessive tenderness, oral sores, discolored (red or white) patches of tissue, asymmetries, and more.

Every dentist is different, but at Village Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Podray-Donovan uses a visual examination to screen your child for oral cancer. Using a gentle touch and calming demeanor, she will ensure your child remains calm and comfortable while in the treatment chair.
She will use gloved hands to feel your child’s neck and throat, as well as their mouth and cheeks. The entire process takes only a few minutes, so it does not take up much of the designated appointment time. If she finds anything that is concerning, she will ensure you and your child are referred to a local physician for additional testing.
The sooner we detect potential abnormalities, the greater the chance for early diagnosis and successful recovery.
